Before beginning my career in the Arts, I was a teacher, architect, workshop facilitator, and business owner. I have Master's Degrees in both Education and Architecture. I grew up in a small East Texas town. When I retired, I moved to New Mexico for about ten years, but now live in Claremore, OK to be close to my family.
When I am creating, the volume knob in my heart turns up to 10. No matter what form of art I am currently creating, it fills my soul with happiness. My passions have been multi-focused and led me down many magical paths - gourds, recycled sculptures, journaling, illustrating, writing - the list goes on.
Journaling has been a part of my life for over 30 years. It is a wonderful way to record my adventures as well as a vehicle for expressing my thoughts and feelings. It wasn’t long before I started illustrating my journals as I wrote. The “creative realism” of my illustrations brings the words to life for me. My journals reflect my playfulness and enthusiasm for life which eventually led to writing a book.
I have also been fascinated with found objects. I love finding ordinary objects in the world that speak to me to become something different…and I let them!
Other people’s “junk” becomes a treasure to me. I know that each piece has its own story, even an old smashed and rusted soda cap, and they become my treasures! As I assemble the treasures on a piece of art it becomes a collection of stories never told.
The whimsical nature of my art reflects my excitement for life and the slightly twisted way I see things. My intention is for the viewer to share in the playfulness. I hope my work will speak to you in its own way and make you smile.
